Last week, Mark O’Loughlin, Managing Director, Cloud Credential Council (CCC) was invited by ITSM ZONE to discuss some questions including ‘what is cloud?’ and ‘how does cloud affect service management’? One of the vital takeaways from that discussion was the importance of context. Short definitions of cloud or cloud service management are useless without understanding the bigger picture of your organization.

Mark provided some background for viewers:

“In recent years the IT landscape and traditional IT model has changed significantly. The fundamental cause of this shift is cloud computing, generally referred to as cloud. Cloud provides organisations with far greater levels of flexibility, innovation and potential that previous IT capabilities. If done correctly, costs can be saved too.

New ways of working such as DevOps, Lean and Agile are now being used to achieve the scalability, flexibility and innovation provided by the cloud model. However, it is very evident that many organisations and people still do not know the basic fundamentals of cloud and therefore will not achieve the required levels.

The Professional Cloud Service Manager (PCSM) Certification

Enables participants to design and deliver cloud services. The certification provides a hands-on, practical approach to understanding how cloud computing and cloud-based services impact operations, and how to adapt existing processes to deliver better services.

If the IT Service Management (ITSM) community want to remain relevant in todays new IT landscape they need to fully understand what cloud is and become leaders and trusted advisors in their organisation an all matters relating to cloud. This is the first step. Then they will also need to become multi-skilled in other domains such as DevOps, Lean and Agile etc.

The IT model has significantly changed and therefore the ITSM community needs to change, upskill and rethink how they will succeed in this new world. Professional Cloud Service Manager (PCSM) from the CCC provides the required level of education and context regarding cloud enabling IT Service managers to lead and manage their organisations’ cloud initiatives.”
